Maya, thanks for joining us at Reading Between the Wines today!

Thanks so much for having me! xoxo

What is your favorite thing about the hero of you newest novel, LETTING GO?

His patience and determination. His unwavering love of Joss and the fact that he’d go to any lengths to have her and protect her even to the point of suppressing integral parts of himself if it was the only way he could have her. He’s very selfless.

You often include a close friendship between women as a part of the books you write.  Why is that?

HE HAS A LEGACY TO SAVE…

Come to find out, the consultant hired to fix things is the "one who got away" many years ago. This time he's playing for keeps, and he intends to win.

SHE SHOULD NEVER SAY NEVER…

They have one week. Can the two of them pull Michael's company out of the fire and heal their old wounds?

The Magic Between Us ~ Interview & #Giveaway from Tammy Falkner!

Fairies! Pretty winged fairies! Or the fae. Call them what you may but our guest today sure paints a pretty picture of them. Still not sure, just check out her covers! Welcome Tammy Falkner!

Lexi: Your Faerie series is cute and sweet. A guarantee happy ending. And I love that you mix a little magic with Regency England. What would be your favorite fantasy/paranormal creature to make an appearance in your series?

Tammy:  My favorite has to be the garden gnome, Ronald.  He’s witty, devoted to his family, and he brings all sorts of angst and fun to the pages. (And he gets his own happily-ever-after!)

LORD of the HUNT - Interview and #Giveaway with Shona Husk!

Take a piece of history and mix in a little mythology and what do you get? Our guest today, Shona Husk

Lexi: Lord of the Hunt is out!!!! And for those of you who aren’t aware, Shona Husk has a great series that doesn’t deal with goblins. Court of Annwyn is a paranormal romance (because they should ALL be romance shouldn’t they?) spotlighting the fae. What led you to choose a series about these mythological beings?

Shona: I’ve always enjoyed the darker aspect of the fae, but I’m not sure it was a conscious choice to write about them. When visiting a maze with the kids we had a conversation about what mazes could be made of and Eldest Kid suggested glass. I said no as you’d be able to see through it…but then I started thinking how that would work when you could see what you wanted but not how to get there. In my mind it was then a small step to thinking that would be how a fairy court would work. I didn’t do anything with that idea for about six months then while I was sitting in an engineering conference about water quality in drainage systems and I decided to play with that idea instead of taking notes. Lord of the Hunt was the first book I plotted in the series, even though Caspian (the hero from book one, The Outcast Prince) had been in my mind for much longer—although I didn’t know he was part fairy, just psychometric, until it all started to come together.

A sexy, romantic read from the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of Someone to Love. When coed Ally Monroe literally falls into the arms of a tattooed bad-boy one summer night, she can't seem to let go. Morgan Jordan is everything Ally doesn't want—he's a playboy from a blue collar background, and Ally's looking for upper-class stability. Though their relationship starts off as a one-night stand, once Ally learns Morgan is her best friend's brother, there's no escaping him . . . or the growing fire between them. As Ally and Morgan become closer, they confront bitter enemies, his sister's disapproval, and paths pulling them in different directions at summer's end. The second book in the bestselling Someone to Love series proves that in love and passion, sometimes two wrongs do make a right.

COMPROMISING WILLA by Diana Quincy (Guest Post/Giveaway)

I'd like to welcome author, Diana Quincy, joining us now with her historical romance, COMPROMISING WILLA!

FIVE FUN FACTS ABOUT COMPROMISING WILLA

1. Compromising Willa is the third book in my Accidental Peers series, but it is actually the first book I wrote and chronologically takes places before Seducing Charlotte and Tempting Bella, the first two books in the series. Readers can consider Compromising Willa to be a “prequel.” All of the books are loosely related but can definitely stand alone.

FEEL THE HEAT by Kate Meader (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please welcome author, Kate Meader, joining us with her contemporary romance - FEEL THE HEAT!

Top 5 Reasons Chicago is for Lovers

Chicago is big, bold, and beautiful—just like my heroine, Lili DeLuca. And it’s also a great place to get your romance on.

1. The food. I wouldn’t be much of a culinary romance writer if I didn’t mention the fixins! You could eat out a different restaurant every night of the week for years and never get bored. And we all know, variety is key to any great relationship. *wink*

He never wanted to be a hero…until she needed him to be.

Strength…It took Kennedy Moore years to put her life back together after Reese Spencer shattered it.  But she did.  Now, years later, strong and independent, she is in pursuit of a single dream—to dance with the Altman American Dance Theater.  Unfortunately, Kennedy is learning that a girl from nowhere with no money and no contacts might never be able to reach her goal.

That is, until Reese reappears, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that Kennedy just can’t refuse.  In exchange for working on his yacht for a few short weeks, he’ll get her an audition with the famous dance troupe.  All Kennedy has to do is keep her head down, work hard and resist Reese.  That sounds easy enough, right?

Weakness…Reese doesn’t want to make it easy for Kennedy.  Seeing her again has started a fire in his blood—an unwelcome one.  It took him years to forget about her before, so this time he has a plan.  It’s simple:  Get Kennedy on his yacht, seduce her, get her out of his system, move on with his life.  That sounds easy enough, right?
But the one thing Reese didn’t plan for was Kennedy herself—a girl so strong yet so broken, she makes him want to rescue her, to take care of her.  To save her.  Even if he has to save her from himself.

A biker. A tattoo artist. A love to last a lifetime.
Maddox Cross has always had to be tough. When his father went to jail for murder, the teenager took care of his sister and mother. Now on his own and working security at a night club, Maddox wants to become a tattoo artist-a dream that comes closer to reality when he falls for the hottest, most tatted woman he's ever seen. She's wild and beautiful, and Maddox will do anything to be with her.
Bee Malone came to town to open up her new tattoo parlor, Masquerade. Since being kidnapped as a young girl, Bee has had trouble getting close to anyone. But when she meets Maddox, she sees that under his hard biker's body is the sensitive soul of an artist. What starts out as a sizzling one-night stand soon becomes so much more.
Bee wants Maddox to join her tattoo business, but letting him into her life means revealing all her most intimate secrets. And as the past begins to intertwine with her present, Bee fears their love may not be as permanent as their ink . . .
EXCERPT:

“Did you bring any drawings?” Bee sits at the chair behind a desk.
I hand her a book, but the second I do, I want to snatch it back. It’s always like that showing someone my work, even though I know it’s good. “That’s just one I had with me. I have more at home.”
She doesn’t answer as she starts flipping through the pages. After a couple minutes of watching her study each page, I start to get jittery. Feel like she’s looking inside me instead of at some pages, so to distract myself, I move around the room, taking in pictures of her work and other tattoos on the walls.
She looks at the book for what seems like an hour before speaking. “These are good. They’re different. Your artwork has a unique style that I haven’t seen before.”
I nod.
“Why do you want to be a tattoo artist?” she asks. The question shows me how serious she is about what she does because no one has brought it up before.
The urge to tell her it’s none of her business surges through me, but I want this badly enough to answer. “Because when I’m around it, I feel more like myself than I probably ever have.”
A brief flash of shock shows on her face, but she covers it quickly. “Good. I won’t screw around with someone who’s playing a game. This isn’t something you do to make a quick buck. Not if you’re working with me, at least. Did you get a chance to actually give anyone ink?”
“No. The apprenticeship only lasted three months before he bailed.”
Bee nods. “That’s good. I actually rather you have hardly any experience—that way I don’t have to train bad habits out of you.”
“I’m not a dog.”
“No one said you were. Chill out, Scratch.”
I tense at the name, but before I can really say anything, she starts asking questions again. “Do you lean toward liking only black work or are you into color too?”
Everything I have so far is only black, but as I look at her again, I see a variety of black and colorful work. “Depends. I don’t want to do only one or the other. I love work with shading too. I’ve seen some pieces that are really incredible just because of the shading.”
She nods and I wonder if that was the right answer.
“I’m not saying you don’t, but this is something you have to take seriously. There are a lot of dumb-asses out there who think it’s all fun, but it’s not. Stuff like being clean and safe is even more important than the picture you put into someone’s skin.”
“That’s a given, isn’t it?”
She grins. “You’d think, but it’s not always like that.”
We’re both quiet after that. Bee glances down at my artwork again. “I’m surprised I even let you in here tonight. It’s important that you know that. I don’t take shit from people.”
One look at her and that’s obvious. Part of me didn’t expect her to open the door for me either. “I’m surprised I came, so that makes two of us.” When she looks up at me, I’m not sure how I feel about the way her eyes take me in. Don’t know what I think about the fact that we have shit in common or that her look is familiar to me. I give it myself.
Bee stands, walks around to the front of the desk, and then leans on it. “If we do this, can we keep things from getting awkward?”
My answer comes automatically. “I can if you can. It was one night. We don’t know each other and I’m never with someone more than once anyway.” I’ve shared this strange sort of honesty with her tonight that makes my body overheat. I want all the words back because they’re a part of me and I don’t want anyone to see who I am, but this is it. Saying these things to her is the only way to get what I want.
“Now that you’ve asked your questions and realize this isn’t a game to me, I need to know if we’re doing this or not.”
Silently she walks toward the door and opens it. I hold in the groan, pissed at myself for fucking this up again and even more pissed that she’s in control.
Bee turns toward me, her blond hair messy from sleep, but it’s another thing she doesn’t care about. It doesn’t take away from how sexy she is either.
“We’re doing this. Don’t make me regret it. Now I need to get some sleep and then we’ll talk tomorrow about a schedule.”
I let out the breath trapped in my lungs. Thanks, echoes through my mind, but all that comes out is, “Cool. We’ll talk later.” Then I walk out the door.
Instead of going home, I head to the high school. It’s such a dumb fucking thing to do, but like I’ve done other nights, I jump the fence and head to the football field. Sitting in the middle of it, I let my eyes trace over the whole thing, trying to remember the time this used to be important to me. And trying not to concentrate on the fact that even though I got something I want, something I need, I still want to take out the fucking world because of everything I’ve lost.

Book # 5 in the award-winning Devil DeVere series. May be read as a standalone.

Although free from six years of captivity, he’s still fettered by fears that confine him to a life of seclusion.
Her scars are well-hidden…Once the crowning jewel of the most lavish brothel in London, the exotic Salime finds her reputation and livelihood destroyed by a bitter rival. With a closely guarded secret stripped away, she fears no man will ever desire her again. Seeking aid from one who once saved her life, she accepts a proposition to become a companion to his war-scarred friend.
But love is the eternal cure…When circumstance brings these two damaged souls together, fate ignites a love story worthy of the Arabian Nights.
(mature content warning).

Lexi’s Thoughts:

A veiled woman with secrets and a man who has lost his will to live. Vane’s Jewel of the East is a nice addition to her Devil DeVere series.

The Waiting Game by JL Fynn (Guest Post/Giveaway)

The Challenges of Co-authoring

The number one question that we receive (we being Chelle Bruhn and myself, Katherine Ernst, the co-authors behind J.L. Fynn) is how we manage co-writing. Most people think writing jointly would be more difficult than writing alone, but in our experience it isn’t at all. Writing is usually such a solitary endeavor and having a co-author means that you have a partner through every step of the process. However, there are definitely pitfalls to watch out for.

The first thing you need to consider when finding a co-writer is whether the two of you have a compatible writing style: both in the way that you write, but also in terms of how you plot out your book. Are you going to be able to agree on important plot points or the direction of the book? Is one of you a much flowery writer than the other? Will one person’s writing be glaringly different than the other’s? Chelle and I have been best friends since we were fourteen and have very similar tastes, so this was never difficult for us, but this is the issue that hangs up most writers and causes them to shy away from co-writing, for good reason.

An interview with the devil about The Jewel of the East! Victoria Vane Character Interview and Giveaway!

We have a special guest with us today. He may be called a rake by some, and a wastrel by others, but most commonly a devil...the Devil DeVere. And here he is!

Lexi: *silence* Umm...yes, questions. I have some questions, somewhere, and wine. Would you care for some DeVere?

DeVere smiles. "Brandy is my poison of choice but port is a close second. I'd happily accept either."

More Than a Touch by Alexis Morgan (Guest Post)

Today I am pleased to welcome author, Alexis Morgan, who is joining us with her recent contemporary romance - MORE THAN A TOUCH!

If He's This, She Must Be That

When asked how I approach storytelling, I usually describe myself as a hero-centric writer. That's because I almost always "see" the hero first when I'm developing a new story or even a new series. Most recently, I started off my Snowberry Creek series with the soldiers who would form the centerpiece for the first three books. Once I got to know them, I could begin to piece together the town and the people who live there, and more importantly, the heroines.

That doesn't mean the women in my books aren't equally important to me and to the story I plan to tell. If the heroine is nothing but a cardboard cutout, a surface image with no depth, then the hero's story will never work. He can only be as memorable as she is. Certainly the heroine must be strong in her own right, with her own agenda, interests, desires, and back story.

The Pack or the Panther by Tara Lain (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Knocking My Alphas Off Their Pedastals

Hi everyone! I’m so happy to be here. I’m Tara Lain and I write The Beautiful Boys of Romance. I’m introducing my new paranormal novel, The Pack or the Panther, and it’s all about werewolves and panther shifters. Werewolf books are generally the territory of the purest alpha males -- and, at first glance, my hero Cole Harker is no exception. He’s six-foot five, weighs over 200 lbs, can “hear a tadpole at the bottom of a stream”, shift at will even without the full moon, and can even smell weapons. He’s the master of wolves!

Thrash (Bayonet Scars, #2) by JC Emery (Guest Post/Giveaway)

We have author JC Emery joining us now with her Bayonet Scars series. I enjoyed the first book, Ride, and am looking forward to the new release in the series, Thrash!

Ten Things I Bet You Didn’t Know about the Bayonet Scars series

1. The history of the club: The Forsaken Motorcycle Club was founded in late 1946 after the end of World War II when US soldiers returned home and found themselves unable to deal with the normality of their world. A group of six soldiers retreated to the wilds of Nevada where they eventually formed the club a few months later. By 1950, Forsaken had four charters and thirty-two members across three states: Nevada, California, and Arizona.
The “mother charter” as it’s called is now the home of most of the “retired” club members who are too old to do much of anything but bitch, including Rage—Ryan’s grandfather and Jim’s father. Forsaken now operates in the following states: Nevada, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida.
Forsaken is the largest grower, distributor, and transporter of marijuana on the west coast with distribution to four states with the Fort Bragg charter being in charge of the primary growth and overseeing the distribution of the goods.
Rage, Ryan’s grandfather, was the second president of the Fort Bragg charter until his “retirement” to Nevada. He was also the 31st member of the club, having patched in in 1949.

Tell Me When by Stina Lindenblatt (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Joining us now is author, Stina Lindenblatt with, Tell Me When, a New Adult romance being published by Carina Press.

Top 10 Favorite Books

I’ve been asked to list my top ten favorite books. Now, this is not an easy task. Just when I thought I was done, I’d think of another book to add. Because the list is more like hundred, I’ve narrowed it down to edgy contemporary Young Adult and New Adult novels (sorry, Harry Potter). So in no particular order:

1. Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry. I LOVE all of Katie’s books, but this is the one that left me sobbing during one particular scene (as it did for many people). I read the book four times and sobbed every time. Heck, I even teared up just thinking about the scene.

What do you get when you cross a hockey mom with the grim reaper?
Me, Lisa Carron. If being a depressed, frumpy, widowed mother of three wasn't bad enough, I just found out I'm a grim reaper. I know what you're thinking. Wow, that's kind of sexy and full of awesomeness. Hardly. Oh, and my clients? Stupid people. Like I don't get enough of that from the living.
Since Alaska is big and angels of death are few, I've been partnered with reaper extraordinaire, Nate Cramer. He's strong, silent, and way too good looking for my recently widowed state. Oh, and he reaps violent criminals, so that should be interesting.
Forget the danger and the hours of self-analysis it will take for me to find my reaper mojo. My biggest problem? Hiding it all from my overly attentive family and nosy neighbors. Now that's going to take a miracle.

The year is 1945. Claire Randall, a former combat nurse, is back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon--when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient stone circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach--an "outlander"--in a Scotland torn by war and raiding Highland clans in the year of Our Lord...1743.

Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into intrigues and dangers that may threaten her life...and shatter her heart. For here she meets James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, and becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire...and between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives.

Thoughts:
After much ado about this series and the upcoming Starz television series, I decided to pick up Outlander, if only just to see what the hype about Jamie Fraser was all about.
