I was never supposed to be a rock star. I had my life all planned out for me. Play football in college. Go to the NFL. Marry my high school sweetheart and live happily ever after.
I broke both our hearts that day when I told her I was leaving. I was young. I made the right decision for me, but the wrong decision for us. I’ve poured my soul into my music, but I’ve never forgotten her. Her smell, her smile.
And now I’m going back.
After ten years.
I hope I can explain that after all this time.
I still want her to be my forever girl.

Diane Thorne's Sexy & Damned Series (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to give a warm welcome back to author, Diane Thorne, who is joining us with her series, Sexy & Damned!

The difficulties of a stripper

Stripping is difficult. Did you know that? I don't speak from experience. I have not done any pole dancing, but I determined the extra curricular activity was difficult from the research I conducted when I had to write a stripping scene.

My research involved reading articles and watching videos. I discovered routines are short and the dancers are constantly in motion. There may be breaks, then the stripper returns for another routine. Imagine a woman dressed in next to nothing and dancing with five-inch heels. Leg and arm strength is essential, among flexibility and other things. A pole dancer must have these abilities. Role playing or acting is also important. It's a show, a hot and steamy show to lure men to spend their money. No touching is permitted. This basic information helped me develop my stripping scene in book #2. Using my imagination, I added a few details and extended the dance show. It is fiction after all.

Highland Heart by Heather McCollum (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today I would like to give a warm welcome to a new-to-me author that I have come to love who writes about some sexy Highlanders, Heather McCollum!

Thank you so much for having me today on Reading Between the Wines! I’m very excited to be here to talk a little about HIGHLAND HEART (HH), my novella that was just released by Entangled Publishing. HH is set in 16th century Scotland, fifteen years before my full-length novel CAPTURED HEART (CH), even though it was written after it. My wonderful agent found an opportunity for me to be part of an anthology, but I had to write a story that was under 13,000 words. This was a huge challenge for me since I usually run around 100,000 words. I loved the world of CH, the rugged warriors in low-slung kilts and the sharp, powerful women who captured their hearts, so I dug into that world for my novella. When CH was released, Entangled Publishing was interested in publishing HH as a stand-alone since it was the prequel.

Melting the Millionaire's Heart by Linda Morris (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to contemporary and historical romance author, Linda Morris, who is joining us with her new title from Entangled Publishing, Melting the Millionaire's Heart!

Hi, Crystal. Thanks so much for having me on Reading Between the Wines, a blog that combines two of my personal loves. So for this guest post, you asked me to contribute a funny and sexy snowstorm survival kit, which is timely, considering that my new book from Entangled, Melting the Millionaire's Heart, revolves around two strangers who are snowed into together unexpectedly. Knowing my luck, if I was ever snowed in with a stranger, he would probably have four teeth, have a personal grooming deficiency, and be out on bail. But the great thing about fiction is that you can make things work out exactly the way you want them to, so I was much nicer to my heroine, Kayla. She's on her way to a fundraiser at a millionaire's estate when she wrecks her car and winds up stranded in the snow. She's rescued by a good-looking stranger, but little does she realize that he's actually Ryan Langford, the mysterious philanthropist she was on her way to visit. Tired of being chased for his money, Ryan decides not to tell her his true identity, and hijinks ensue. They take shelter at the nearby home of Ryan's parents, deserted for the holidays. There, they have several of the absolute necessities for transforming a deadly snowstorm into a romantic retreat:

There Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love StoriesThere Once Lived a Girl Who Seduced Her Sister's Husband, and He Hanged Himself: Love Stories
by Ludmila Petrushevskaya, Anna Summers (Translation)
Paperback, 192 pages
Expected publication: January 29th 2013 by Penguin Books

Love stories, with a twist: the eagerly awaited follow-up to the great Russian writer's New York Times bestselling scary fairy tales.
By turns sly and sweet, burlesque and heartbreaking, these realist fables of women looking for love are the stories that Ludmilla Petrushevskaya—who has been compared to Chekhov, Tolstoy, Beckett, Poe, Angela Carter, and even Stephen King—is best known for in Russia. Here are attempts at human connection, both depraved and sublime, by people in all stages of life: one-night stands in communal apartments, poignantly awkward couplings, office trysts, schoolgirl crushes, elopements, tentative courtships, and rampant infidelity, shot through with lurid violence, romantic illusion, and surprising tenderness.

Top 5 Things You Should Know About Dating A Wolf Shifter
Advice from Jenna O’Conner

I’ve recently found myself in a pickle of a situation. You see, I’m not human, but neither am I considered ‘normal’ for the supernatural Other community my family comes from. Because of that, they’ve hidden me in a small town away from all Others my entire life. Then I decided to leave that small town before my loving family inadvertently smothered me with their good intentions, and landed the opportunity of my dream job on a big city SWAT team. Problem is,my first day on the job I met this guy, Adam. Maybe calling Adam ‘a guy’ is a joke. He’s more than just some guy. He’s an Alpha wolf shifter of a powerful Pack, who gives a new definition to the words determined and growly. So I’ve decided to put together warning list for all other women who find themselves suddenly the object of obsession by one of these possessive wolves.

Tour: Skin Deep by Sarah Makela (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to paranormal romance author, Sarah Makela!

My Favorite Quality in a Hero

Skin Deep’s Connor O’Reilly is one of those heroes that truly melt my heart. There’s a lot to like about him. At first, I wasn’t even sure why he had such an impact on me, just that he’s sweet, sexy, and werewolf. Those are all fantastic aspects of who he is, but what really got me going about him? I’m not going to lie. The fact he’s a werewolf added bonus points, but I absolutely love his rock-solid commitment to getting Angelique back in his life. Not only does he want her, but he wants her bad enough to put himself at risk.

*fans self* Woo, that’s hot! For someone to be that dedicated is awe-inspiring and romantic. He’s really putting himself out there for her in the attempt to win her back.

Review: Fatal Circle by Linda Robertson - 4 Wine Glasses!

Fatal Circle
Persephone Alcmedi #3
by Linda Robertson
Paperback, 368 pages
Published June 29th 2010 by Pocket Books
ISBN: 9781439156803
copy courtesy of publisher
Destiny sucks. . . .
There was a time when Persephone Alcmedi thought her life was hard to manage, what with wondering how to make sure she took adequate care of both her grandmother and her foster daughter, Beverley, whether she'd end up in the unwanted position of high priestess of a coven, and whether her werewolf lover, Johnny, would resist the groupies who hang around his band Lycanthropia.
But that was before the fairies started demanding that Seph's frightening, unpredictable ally - the ancient vampire Menessos - be destroyed . . . or the world will suffer. Seph and Menessos are magically bonded, but that's a secret she dares not reveal to her fellow witches lest they be forced to reject her and forbid her use of magic. And, despite the strain this casts on her relationship with Johnny, as a showdown with the fairies nears, she and Menessos badly need the werewolves as allies.
Life, death, and love are all on the line, but when destiny is calling, it doesn't help to turn away. With the individual threads of their fates twisted inextricably together, can Seph, Johnny, and Menessos keep the world safe from fairy vengeance?

Available for purchase at Amazon, Kindle, Barnes & Noble, and The Book Depository

Lexi's Thoughts:

As if the witches, vampires, and weres were not enough to try balance, the fairies have to declare war. What a great combination for this urban fantasy series, Fatal Circle is a great continuation for the Persephone Alcmedi series.

Tour: Excuse My Fairy by Kinley Baker (Guest Post)

Please give a warm welcome to romance author, Kinley Baker!

Thank you for hosting me at Reading Between the Wines Book Club! I’m so excited to be here because I can sense the love of romance, and I’m right there with you.

I’ll read anything with a romance element and a happy ending. Any genre works for me. I laughed when I was checking out the site because I can relate to your bios about the whole getting an eReader because someone got annoyed by the late night reading light.

That’s how things worked out in my family, too. Although my husband still doesn’t appreciate waking up at 3 a.m. only to see I’m still reading. I can’t help it. Lately, I’ve been obsessed with contemporary romance! Roni Loren kept me up really late with two of her books recently.

Unfortunately, there are a few small problems with the idea. Not only does Seph know rather more about Vivian's disappearance than the other witches realize, but the epic struggle she's just survived has left her with some highly unusual powers — ones that could be dangerous to reveal. Despite her reluctance, she agrees to participate, if only to prevent snooty Hunter Hopewell, an obnoxious but talented witch, from ending up in the winner's circle. Can Seph hide her secrets — including her connection to the master vampire-wizard Menessos — from the terrifyingly wise judges? Plus, there's her rock 'n' roll werewolf boyfriend, Johnny, and some angry fairies to deal with....Once the competition begins, a finalist turns up dead. It looks as if one of the contestants is willing to do anything — including murder — to win. Suddenly Seph has even more on her plate than she thought: from solving a murder to working out what her new powers really are...and exactly why they're creating so much havoc in her love life.

A girl's got to do what a girl's got to do....Being a witch doesn't pay the bills, but Persephone Alcmedi gets by between reading Tarot cards, writing her syndicated newspaper column, and kenneling werewolves in the basement when the moon is full -- even if witches aren't supposed to mingle with wolves. She really reaches the end of her leash, though, when her grandmother gets kicked out of the nursing home and Seph finds herself in the doghouse about some things she's written. Then her werewolf friend Lorrie is murdered...and the high priestess of an important coven offers Seph big money to destroy the killer, a powerful vampire named Goliath Kline. Seph is a tough girl, but this time she bites off more than she can chew. She needs a little help from her friends -- werewolf friends. One of those friends, Johnny, the motorcycle-riding lead singer for the techno-metal-Goth band Lycanthropia, has a crush on her. And while Seph has always been on edge around this 6'2" leather-clad hunk, she's starting to realize that although their attraction may be dangerous, nothing could be as lethal as the showdown that awaits them.

Lexi's Thoughts:
Linda Robertson has it ladies and gentlemen. She has written an urban fantasy with a strong heroine who is not annoying, or constantly fainting, or who knows it all and has it come easy. Persephone, aka Seph, is a witch like no other...only she is just beginning to find that out.

The Magic of Storytelling

Storytelling began around fires when we were still hunter gatherers. It continued in inns and country houses through ancient and medieval times. The day a Bard came to town was a major event. Everyone gathered to hear him sing and tell stories. (Well, sometimes it was a “her” disguised as a “him”, but that’s because women’s roles were pretty strictly defined until rather recently.)

Families gathered around the radio until about the nineteen fifties when television came into common use. Of course there were radio news shows, but there were also lots of “story” shows. One of my favorites was Mystery Theater. I loved the sound effects: creaking doors, whooshing wings, and heartrending screams. I’m actually a little too young to remember sitting around a radio, but I bought tapes of Mystery Theater shows and listened to them while I was in college.

Please give a warm welcome to historical romance author, Robyn Dehart, who is joining us with her newest release in Entangled's Scandalous line, A Little Bit Wicked!

For this blog I was asked to discuss the difference between “wickedness” then and now. ‘Then’ certainly covers a huge chunk of time so I’m just going to focus on the time period that I’m most familiar with, Victorian England. Of course now days there doesn’t seem to be a line for being wicked (and for the purposes of this blog I’m using wicked as in naughty) promiscuity is quite high, teenagers are having sex younger and younger – I’m clearly not here to give a lecture about that but when you’re talking about how things are now vs Victorian England – things are quite different.

He’ll do anything for you. But you’d better say please.
When tomboy sports reporter Charli Beaumonde loses a dream TV job because she’s not girly enough for primetime, she’s determined to land a big scoop and prove her boss made a mistake. But when she gets too close to a football scandal and finds her life threatened, Charli accepts an offer from family friend Grant Waters to hide out at his place—even if Grant predicts nothing but trouble from his buddy’s hard-headed, uncompromising, irrepressible, younger sister. There’s one more problem…
Grant’s “place” is The Ranch, a BDSM resort in Texas, and he’s used to being in charge —even if that means trying to keep Charli in line. But much to Grant’s surprise, she’s intrigued—even envious—of his trainees. They’re the epitome of what she’s never been: sexy, beguiling, and totally irresistible to a man. Still, Grant doesn’t believe for a minute that the sharp-tongued Charli has it in her to be anyone’s submissive. But Charli’s already on her knees vying for the chance to prove that even the Master can be wrong sometimes.

There are things in bassist Jace Seymour’s past that he is unwilling to share with anyone. To cover his guilt and anguish, he seeks dominatrix Mistress V (Aggie) to temporarily placate his inner turmoil. Aggie doesn’t have much use for men–besides the power rush she gets when they’re begging for mercy at her feet–but Jace isn’t like her usual clients. His cool defiance and unexpected dominance in the bedroom drives her to distraction and quickly steals her heart. When circumstances threaten Jace’s position in Sinners, Aggie must help him regain his rightful place in the band while showing him that time and love can heal all wounds.

Diane Thorne, Destined for Love (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Please give a warm welcome to erotic romance author, Diane Thorne!

From bad boys to genies

I typically write about demons, vampires, and other supernatural creatures in a dark setting. The men in my stories are naughty and devilish most of the time. What can I say, I like wicked men.

But when I began writing Destined for Love, I decided to get away from the dark side. There is a bright one filled with hope and gorgeous men who want to give pleasure and happiness. This might seem strange, but at the time I wrote Destined for Love I was going through a divorce. I think my mood had a small impact on my writing. I didn't want to write about the bad boys I love. I wanted a strong character who finds herself in a pickle and meets a wonderful man who cares about her. So, where did I begin?
