OUT OF TIME by Jen McLaughlin (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Today we would like to welcome author, Jen McLaughlin, to RBtWBC! Jen is joining us with her recent release of OUT OF TIME, the second book in her OUT OF LINE new adult romance series. Enjoy!

Writing men like Finn

One of the biggest challenges for me was a writer is writing heroes that readers will fall in love with. It’s not enough for them to have one or two redeeming qualities. It’s not enough for them to be funny but not smart. When we open up a book, we want the whole package.

We want to be swept off of our feet by a guy who will do anything for the woman he loves. We want a guy that’s smart, funny, cocky, arrogant, kind, and has a six pack with an equally addicting face. We want a guy that has a good job, and a twisty past, but that has a heart of gold.

In short?

We want guys like Finn in the second book of my Out Of Line series, OUT OF TIME (and OUT OF LINE, too).

Doesn’t sound hard, right? You just have to take all those things and smash them together and then bam! You have a hero. But the thing that’s the hardest is putting them all together and making it realistic. Because men like Finn? They do exist. I’ve met them. But the majority of men that we meet are not men like Finn.

So you have to help the reader get over their disbelief that men like him can exist. And then, and only then, will the reader fall head over heels for the hero.

And if you’ve met Finn, hopefully you think I succeeded in that aspect.

What’s your favorite part about heroes in books?

Desperate to keep him...
I've finally gotten everything I ever wanted: love, freedom, happiness, and, most importantly, Finn. Our love is everything I expected it to be and more. We've finally found each other, but the world seems determined to tear us apart. We thought my father was the only obstacle between us, but now it's the military. With Finn’s departure looming, we’re squeezing in every moment together before we run out of time.

Trying to make every moment count…
Being Carrie’s bodyguard was one thing. Being her boyfriend is another. Every day she’s mine is a day the sun shines in my life. Yet our time together is running out. Her father will never think a tattooed Marine will be good enough, so I’ll do whatever it takes to be worthy of her love. But the road will take me away from the girl who makes me feel alive--the girl I can't live without.

Time only gets us so far...
