SHE FOLLOWS THE RULES
As the Collegium council's top sheriff of the southeastern United States, Valeria Banning doesn't just take her job seriously, she takes it personally. So when a notorious traitor wanted by the authorities suddenly risks his life to save hers, she has to wonder why.

HE BREAKS EVERY ONE OF THEM
As a mage, Griffin is sworn to protect innocents from dark magic, which is how he finds himself fighting side by side with the beautiful Valeria Banning. But when the council finds out the two have been working together, they're both left running for their lives-from the law, the threat of a ghoul takeover, and a possible Collegium mole.

Crystal L's Thoughts:
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. I love, love, LOVE it when I get to read a great new well built world. This book is just that. Set in a contemporary world, it has a beautifully hidden society of mages and magic that the world's mundane (non magic using individuals) population is oblivious to. The action starts right off the bat with this book, and there is a steady of stream of it throughout.

The current Shire Reeve (Sheriff) of the Southeastern CollegiumValeria Banning, is caught by ghouls and ends up being saved by the ex-Shire Reeve of the Southeastern Collegium, Griffin Dare. This wouldn't be such a bad outcome, except for Griffin is a fugitive wanted for murder and treason. Doesn't that make a rescue awkward?

Griffin Dare was framed, but he can't prove it yet. With the help of some of his friends in the Collegium he has been hiding these past years, waiting for the opportunity to prove his innocence and out the traitor who sits on the Collegium's council. So far, that opportunity hasn't come. That is until Valeria Banning drops into his lap. Now is his chance to pull in someone who could possibly help him prove his case. He just doesn't expect to fall for her along the way. Will Griffin and Valeria survive to prove Griffin's innocence, and see if they can build on whatever sparks between them, or will the ghouls kill them first?

This was a great story that I highly recommend, and I can't wait to read the next book in the series that features one of Griffin's best friends. It's a four wine glass toast and I hope all of you enjoy this awesome new world!
