It's all about the ROMANCE... with Laura Wright of Eternal Captive (Guest Post/Giveaway)

Happy Friday everyone and welcome to the last day of our Valentine's event, I hope you've enjoyed it! To end things right I have the wickedly awesome Laura Wright joining us today, who is also our Book of the Month author! Woot! Enjoy and don't forget we have another chance for you to win Eternal Captive in the BotM post!

Dear Readers,

You’ve done this all before, yes? Read one of these letters from the author telling you all about their new book…blah blah blah?

Well, Veanas and Pavens, the author isn’t writing this one.
The stories of my existence, my struggles, my desires will always come from me.

Those of you who know me know that there is nothing I despise more than being told what I can and cannot do – what I can and cannot have. That grating attitude if you will started early on in balashood – and you’ll see a few shades of those early years in Eternal Captive. Granted, my mother had the right to attempt to corral me, I was a little fanged devil. But she was the only one. I’ve never thought twice about gutting anyone who tried to pull that sh*t on me – then or now. But I suppose, in every paven’s long life, there will come a test that drop kicks that belief, that promise, straight into the gutter. And it usually comes in the form of a female. The kind of female you believe yourself immune to. Not your type, not the type of anyone who is moderately sane. And you do your best to ignore her, ignore her scent, her eyes, her legs, her voice, and the call of your body when it’s near hers. You even stretch to the point of inflicting the emotional pain of rejection.

But the need doesn’t go away.

No. It only grows. Like weeds through cracks in cement.

And then just when you think you can’t take it anymore, and your cells and muscles and brain and everything in between are ready to give in to it – to her – her true mate shows up and claims her.

*Fierce Growl*
Well, that’s what this story is about, Veanas and Pavens. The unending struggle of desire. Does boy ever get the girl? And even if he does, even if he can hold on to her for a moment or two, will he get to keep her in the end?

Sh*t.

Does a Breeding Male ever get to hold onto anything?

Like the book or no, Dear Readers, but it’s my awakening – the only goddamn morpho I’ll ever have – and it’s one helluva ride.

Bite Me,
Lucian

Eternal Captive
Ha! So this was Lucian’s letter to readers on the Penguin website. I love this letter because it shows just who Luca is; an unapologetic asshole. But a loveable asshole, don’t you think? The question is, why do we adore heroes who are like this? Do we have a need to tame them? Is it that we want to be the one woman in the world who could? Is it their ‘who cares’ attitude? Their biting humor, overt sexuality, dominating behavior?
I know I am drawn to these kinds of heroes because they are so much fun to write. Anything goes, you know? They can do the very worst of things, well nearly, and yet we know that at some point the perfect female (for him) will come along and ‘get’ him – understand him, make him see that with her in the world things aren’t so bad.  Hell, make him believe in love.

So tell me – why do we love bad boy characters?
And who is your favorite?

  1. Wow, I love the introductory letter from Lucian.

I think we are drawn to those BAD guys, simply because the most cynical, disturbing, bad guys always seem to be the most devoted and loving. Not to mention the just aren't boring. They keep us wondering and guessing just how far they will go. plus they stick with us long after we put that book down.

My favorite, most remember able BAD guys are the Malorys brought to us by Johanna Lindsey.

  2. I love the letter from Lucian.

I like the bad boy characters because I want to be like them. I would love to be strong, feared and be able to do anything I want without giving a sh*t what others think. I'm always attracted to people that have qualities I admire.

  9. We love them because they are what we are told to stay away from. They are dangerous and unknown. And when they have a heart of gold underneath, we melt. Can't wait to read this. Thanks for the giveway!

  10. I think we love the bad guys because they are confident, alpha men who do what they want, regardless of what others think. They are often sarcastic and are very sexy. They also protect those they love from any danger.

  11. Because we all want to be the one to reform them :D

  12. I love how some of them have a softer side that they only show when they are really connected to someone. They keep you on your toes because you never know what they are going to do.
I don't have a favorite bad boy. Which ever one I'm reading about is my favorite.

  13. Love the letter-
The bad boys bring out that danger and excitement....the one I think of the most is Barrons from the Fever series. YUM!

  14. I think I love a bad boy because of the sexy, slightly dangerous, exciting, dominant, aura they naturally carry. And even though they seem all tough...there is usually a soft, tender, vulnerability about them that they will only expose to that someone the love and trust enough to so with...and THAT, my friend is the crux...you want to be that someone that they will love and trust enough to show that side of themselves to.

    Thx for the giveaway op!

  16. I love Eric from True Blood. I don't know why we love bad boys. I mean it's not as if we even want them to change all that much. We love the excitement they bring. You never know what to expect from them. Not to mention that they usually look hot!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Because they are so good at being bad. I guess it's the attraction of being with someone who is super sexy, has a rough exterior, loves be naughty, and a thrill of the unknown.
The possibility of breaking through, and learning his weaknesses.

  19. My fav bad boy is Z from the BDB series! I think we like them because they are usually considered (especially by our parents) to be no good for us, which makes them all the more a temptation:)

  21. We are attracted to bad boys because they are not afraid to be who they are. They are not afraid to do what they want and they don't always do the right thing. I like Damon from Vampire Diaries. Tore923@aol.com

  23. They're more adventurous and tend to remind us of things we would like to do, but wouldn't actually.

  24. I'm not sure if I'd like a bad boy if I met one for real but those that we meet btwn the covers of books are so irresistible! Perhaps it's the aura of danger and excitement?

  26. I absolutely love this series. I think readers are fascinated by bad boys, because they represent the thrill of something forbidden and dangerous.

  28. Bad boys for me are scrumptious! I love the dangerous vibe they give off. They are who they want to be and couldn't care less about what other people think. They are fiercely protective over the love of their life and would do absolutely anything for them. Their naughtiness, dominating behavior and anything goes attitude is definitely what attracts me to them!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't think if bad boy is every girl dream. I always prefer good boy rather than bad boy, but that in real life :P

What I like from bad boy is, he don't give a damn with anything happen that surround them. He don't care what people said, he don't let anyone dictate him and he always do what he want, what he need. But deep inside, he care for people he love.

My favorite bad boy : Zsadist and Wraith

  30. I think its because of their dominating protectiveness. They have a no BS attitude and sexy

  31. I feel that we are drawn to the bad boys because of the need to show them that they can be loved. Plus, I like the idea of the great big alpha male being brought to his knees (in a good way) by a woman he loves. All of that protectiveness and yes even stubbornness just sets our blood on fire!

  32. I think we're go for the bad boy's because we know deep down they are good people with a dash of bad boy thrown in. That's the best kind of guy!

  35. I think that all women love bad boys because we were always warned to stay away from them, that they were nothing but trouble, and would end up getting you into trouble too. But that is what actually draws us, the mystery and his devil may care attitude. As women, we thing that we are the ONE!
As for my favorite bad boy, I would have to say is Dawg from Lora Leigh's Nauti Boys series!

  36. I think bad boys are more interesting than good guys. They're indifferent, exciting, adventurous... etc. Bad boys are often rugged and in-control. That doesn't mean controlling; they just know how to get what they want. They speak clearly and confidently, they look you in the eye, they are passionate about what they believe in... but most importantly, they still know how to treat a lady. And every girl wants a bad boy who will be good just for her... :))

I Loved that letter, it's so unique!!

  37. Why do I love the bad boys? I think the biggest turn on is the thought of taming one of those bad boys. Breaking that bad boy and bringing him to his knees, bringing out the emotions they are hiding behind lock and key.
Who is my favorite, Zsadist. I think Vischous would be a close second.

  38. We love bad boys because they're exciting and dangerous, and, yes, we want to be the ones to tame them--but not too much.

My favorite bad boy used to be Axl Rose, but now, my favorite is fictional--and a vampire--Henry Fitzroy on the Blood Ties TV show. Haven't read enough of the books to know if I like him in them, too, or not.

Lorraine Pearl is my pen name, Dawn Wilhelm is my real name.

  39. I think we love bad boy characters because we get to live on the wild, dark side without dealing with the consequences. Basically we can live vicariously through the author's words!

    ReplyDelete
  40. We love bad boys because of the dangerous allure and the attitude. Plus there is always the thought that the right heroine can crack the shell and dive to the man beneath the surface one who is more than he appears.

My favorite bad boy is Barrons from Karen Marie Moning's Fever series. He's a bad boy in spades.

  41. Bad boys are fun cause I like to see them give in to love, often fighting it all along the way.

  42. Because they are more fun than the good ones. And while in RL we really want to live with the good, this way we can virtually experience the fun of the bad side too

  43. I've read the first two and I'm currently waiting for the library to receive the third book. I've heard fantastic things about this one as well and can't wait to read it!!!

  44. We are drawn to them as characters as much as real life. In real life we'll generally walk away but in books we get to dream that they changed just for us.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bad boys can make such interesting heroes with their complexities. One of my favorite is Zsadist from the BDB series.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don´t have any favourites because i like them all xD They are more interesting than good boys...

  47. We love them because they're dangerous, a total alpha male and HOT!

Choosing one is like asking me to pick ONE favorite book, which is just not possible! Thanks for the giveaway!
